DIVE SITES

Dive sites within walking distance from the dive shop

SAN CARLOS BEACH, BREAKWATER - this is one of the most popular shore diving sites in all of Northern California and it is located directly across from the dive shop!! Divers can gear up in the dive shop and walk across the street to the site! Divers have the opportunity to see a much of the diversity found in local waters at this site including octopuses, large halibut, nudibranchs, sea stars, sea otters, kelp, and friendly California Sea Lion encounters! The site follows a sloping sandy bottom ranging in depths of 10'-70'+ with a rock jetty protecting the site making it diveable on most days. Restrooms and warm showers are also available on-site!

SAN CARLOS BEACH, METRIDIUM FIELDS - this site ranging in depths of 30'-65'+ is located just West of the Breakwater described above. The dive site is named for the abundance of Metridium Anemones carpeting the area. These white or orange anemones are indigenous to Washington - Northern California waters and typically grow in clusters with some of the largest anemones as tall as 3'+. The larger of the anemones are thought to be 100+ years old! Divers may also be visited by California Sea Lions! Restrooms and warm showers are also available on-site!

HIDDEN BEACH - this site is located West of the Metridium Fields described above. This dive site starts along a rocky submerged wall ranging in depths of 10-50'. Along the wall there is a fairly large field of live Sand Dollars and nice bit of Kelp Forest. The site also allows divers to explore a bit of Cannery Row history diving along some of the old sunken cannery pipes and mooring blocks used by the sardine fishing fleet. You'll again have the possible chance encounter with friendly California Sea Lions as there is a group of them that tend to visit divers toward the end of the wall!

Dive sites a short drive from the dive shop - 1/4 mile (along Cannery Row City/Street Parking)

MCABEE BEACH - this is a gem of a dive site ranging in depths of 10-50' giving divers the immediate thrill of diving amongst Kelp Forests and old cannery pipes. There is lots to see here but you want to make sure you bring a dive light. Divers often see Sailfin Sculpin, Cabezons, Lingcod, and the remains of the SS Gypsy if you look hard enough (did we mention how great it is to have a dive light?). This is also a great site for a night dive along Cannery Row!

Dive sites within a short drive from the dive shop - 1.5 miles (in Pacific Grove City/Street Parking)

LOVER'S POINT - long known as a place for couples to share in a magnificent view of the California coast, it also offers some great views underwater! Ranging from 20-70'+ divers can explore rocky ledges and pinnacles covered in colorful invertebrate life including dense colonies of strawberry anemones, reminding divers of fields of flowers. Divers with lights will also discover wonderful ornate macro life tucked in nooks and crannies of the ledges and pinnacles.

OTTER COVE - this site ranges from 10-60' and offers divers a combination of the Metridium Anemones of the Metridium Fields, the Strawberry Anemones of Lover's Point, and the Kelp beds of McAbee Beach along a rocky reef jutted with pinnacles. Divers with lights will be rewarded with critter sightings amongst the nooks and crannies including possible Wolfeel, Monkeyface Eel, and Bat Ray sightings! Divers should be of intermediate or better skill level to dive this from shore.

Dive sites within a quick 15-20 minute drive from the dive shop - 9 miles

MONASTERY BEACH - this site's underwater topography including a steep wall lying between 80' - 130' boasting larger boulders, undercuts, and shallow caves along with it's diversity of sea life makes this one of the area's apex dive sites. Along with its beauty, its precarious steep beach with loose and course sand makes this site one for divers of intermediate or better skill level with experience in beach entries and exits.

POINT LOBOS - watercolor artist Francis McComas once declared Point Lobos "the greatest meeting of land and water in the world." With its incredible beauty and half of the reserve underwater this site ranging from 15'-80' is also considered one of the best dive sites in the area. No fishing or collecting is allowed in the reserve which means the sea life is big and abundant! Diver access is restricted to 15 buddy teams a day making a dive here truly special. Reservations are required. Entrance fee is $10 per diver and $10 parking fee per vehicle.
