Emergency Oxygen training may be a requirement for various wilderness training programs, dive industry jobs, scientific divers, and other related programs. DAN certified Oxygen Providers can obtain oxygen United States Pharmacopoeia (medical grade) oxygen at Praxair retail locations throughout the United States and Canada. PADI certification counts toward the Master Scuba Diver certification.

Certifications should be renewed every 2 years.


PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider
$95, 3 hour course includes: student manual, at-a-glance oxygen provider card, certification card

In a diving emergency, especially Decompression Illness (DCI), Oxygen is a critical first aid response. The PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider course develops your knowledge and practical skills in providing oxygen to an injured diver. Skills covered include:

  • Assembly & Disassembly of an Emergency Oxygen System
  • Non-Rebreather mask use for a breathing diver
  • Demand inhalator valve use for a breathing diver
  • Pocket mask use for a non-breathing diver

Minimum age: none
Prerequisite: none, however CPR & First Aid are recommended

 

DAN Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries
$95, 4 hour course includes: student workbook, slate, and certification card

The course is designed to train and educate the general diving public in the techniques of using oxygen as first aid for a suspected dive injury. In addition, this course will introduce novice divers to the fundamentals of recognizing diving injury warning signs, response and management. This program also provides an excellent opportunity for experienced divers and instructors to continue their education.

The DAN Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries course is not designed to train lay persons to provide oxygen to the general public. While the medical standards and equipment are the same regarding the emergency use of oxygen for both divers and non-divers, the DAN Oxygen Provider course does not prepare individuals to respond to the ill or injured member of the general public by using emergency oxygen.

DAN Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries
$75, 2 hour course includes: student workbook, slate, bag-valve mask, and certification card

This advanced-level program provides additional training. It is designed to train DAN Oxygen Providers to use the MTV-100 or a Bag Valve Mask (BVM) while providing care for a non-breathing injured diver and activating the local emergency medical services (EMS) and / or arranging for evacuation to the nearest available medical facility. Learn to:

  • Demonstrate how to assemble and prepare the Manually Triggered Ventilator (MTV) and Bag Valve Mask (BVM)
  • State the benefits of using the Manually Triggered Ventilator (MTV) and Bag Valve Mask (BVM) for a non-breathing diver
  • Demonstrate how to provide Oxygen First Aid with the MTV resuscitator on a breathing and non-breathing diver
  • Demonstrate how to provide Oxygen First Aid with the Bag Valve Mask to a non-breathing diver

Prerequisite: DAN Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries course within the past 12 months
